Mountains Village

The  Sierra  de  Huelva,  sometimes  referred  to  as  “the  lungs  of  the  province”,  is  where  a  large  part  of  Huelva’s  forest  area  is  to  be  found. Flat  Huelva  disappears,  and  we  head  towards  the  foothills  of  the  Sierra  Morena.

As  we  drive,  the  client  can  discover and  admire  the  beautiful  countryside,  scattered  with  small  towns  and  villages  along  our  way. On  arrival  at  the  Mining  Area  of  Riotinto  we  shall  enjoy  a  panoramic  visit  of  Cerro  Colorado,  from  which  point  we  can  admire  the  unique  scenery  that  man  has  gradually  created  over  the  centuries  by  his  exploitation  of  the  land.  Here  we  shall  learn  about  the  important  history  of  the  mining  area,  and  its  social  transformations  until  the  present  day.

Afterwards, we shall continue straight on to the capital of the sierra, the town of Aracena, where we can learn at  first-hand about the beautiful  town, its  traditions and its gastronomy…

There  we  shall  visit  the  “Grutas  de  las  Maravillas”,  an  authentic  “Journey  to  the  Centre  of  the  Earth”,  where  the  visitor  can  explore  an  extraordinary  expanse  of  more  than  1km  of  underground  tunnels  and  caves,  with  stalagmites,  stalactites  and  tectonic  lakes…  The  visit  to  the  Centre  of  the  Earth  lasts  one  hour.

Also  that  same  morning,  we  shall  take  advantage  of  the  opportunity  to  visit  a  “drying  house”  where  hams  and  other  products  of  the  famous  iberian  pig  are  cured,  and  where  we  can  learn  about  the  secrets  of  this  local  tradition.  The  visit  will  include  a  chance  to  sample  some  of  the  iberian  produce,  which  will  be  served  within  this  establishment.

After  the  visit  we  will  return  to  the  hotel  for  dinner.
